Exploring photography composition

One key part of my research was to look at different compositions of photos. This task enabled me to focus on which types of photos would be good to use for my magazine and those which weren't as effective. I also used models which one was similar to my chosen model and another would challenge a 'culturally sophisticated' audience. Therefore, this research was essential at
knowing which parts were key to knowing what was needed in a successful magazine. 

Overall, I believe that photos I took were clear and they were focusing on the subject. However, these could not be used for my actual magazine front cover as they were too positive and bright for a fashion magazine. Furthermore, the use of a male model would consequently relate to a male audience, in which I would like to explore a dominant female audience.

This is my final design for my contents page of the first edition. I believe that I successfully promoted the designer looks to the target audience as they are designer yet casual. This creates the idea that you can still look good without having to look uncomfortable within your clothes and exaggerating the view that you should feel good and confident in whatever you would like to wear.

Website research

Researching relevant websites were key to my research process. As I will be creating an online website myself, it was necessary to look at examples of websites and their content. Overall, I looked at the main key factors on the website, these included, the layout, colour and typography. I found that the colour and typography was relevant to the overall presentation and branding of the company. This is an essential idea which I need to use for the creation of my website as the physical magazine must relate to the online website. Analysing the layout and purpose of this was also essential as it allowed me to focus on different ways you can navigate yourself around a website and therefore which websites are easier and others which are more difficult to use. My findings showed how most websites were easy to navigate in order for a larger audience to be able to use it and therefore an older demographic. Front cover research

T his research allowed me to look at what front covers have in common and how magazine companies purposely use marketing techniques to focus on a particular audience. In particular, I managed to explore colours and mis-en-scene in much detail. The creative factors are key to a front cover and must show a particular emotion in order to present itself to the correct audience. I chose front covers which I believed related to a culturally sophisticated audience and therefore these are the type of overall image and layout which I needed for my magazine. Different ethnicities had also purposely been used to show a multicultural and diverse society. This had purposely been used to challenge stereotypes and show that beauty is within. This key message has become a critical point for me and the creation of my magazine. To evaluate, this part of my research was critical as I have now adapted and expanded my knowledge in the necessary content needed on a magazine front cover.
